80S
The 1980s began on 1 January 1980 and ended on 31 December 1989. The beginning of this decade is marked by increased Cold War tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union. As the nuclear threat became more latent than ever, a rapprochement between the two blocs took place in the middle of the decade, which was mainly facilitated by Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev's policies known in the West as Glassnost and Perestroika.
